August 2010

It’s almost Hot August Nights again! Time for us to get out our poodle skirts and bobby socks! Shine up those hot rods and classics! Now’s a good time to start thinking about your holiday beading and crafting and getting your supplies piled up for your projects.

If you haven’t visited Mill Street Rocks recently ... we have acquired a selection of bead strands crafted from native Nevada mined stones! There are several varieties to choose from. They are quality finished and any of them will look so very Nevada in your work. You will find other additions to our bead selection also.

Mill Street Rocks is now carrying size 3, BIG! seed beads. If you have little ones who like to do their stringing projects, these are perfect for the little hands. They will also work well for those of you who do fiber projects with heavier or many strands of yarns, since the holes are nice and large. We now stock 8x11 sheets of Lacy’s Stiff Stuff for those of you wanting to try your hand at bead embroidery.

Jennifer is teaching one of her less frequently taught workshops in August plus a more commonly offered one. Information is on the August Calendar. You will find Lydia’s workshops listed there as well.

I am sharing my recipe for Spanish Gazpacho. I made a batch this week and have been really enjoying it! It’s a great use for your fresh off the vine beautiful sweet tomatoes. And the best part!!!! No cooking or warming up needed! Yay!

In food processor place cut pieces of about a pound of tomatoes, one medium size peeled cucumber, 1/2 red bell pepper, 1/2 green bell pepper, 1/2 cup chopped sweet onion and 1 or 2 cloves garlic, season to taste, and pulse a few times. It should not be totally liquified. If it accidentally gets liquified, open a can of chopped tomatoes in juice and don’t pulse. Stir it up and go on ... to add 4T olive oil, 4T red wine vinegar, 2T sweetener of your choice, 3T Worcestershire sauce. Serve with your best corn tortilla chips. Excellent additions to the Gazpacho might be: freshly grilled ear of corn, cut off the cob!, Tabasco, Ortega chiles, avocado, olives, a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt, fresh chopped cilantro. Enjoy Summer!
